The Ordinary Glycolic Acid | A Review

10/26/2018

This post took a while to come out. But I guess it is better later than ever, specially when the topic is affordable skin care!
You see, I almost boycotted The Ordinary (and the whole DECIEM) group because of the disturbing reports and instagram posts made by their former CEO. Rude comments, unprofessional behaviour and other appalling situations were happening and no one was able to take control of the situation, until Esteé Lauder (who owns up to 28% of DECIEM) decided to finally take legal action in court regarding how the group was being run. Please bare in mind that there are reports that the former CEO might suffer from some kind of mental health problem, which I do hope that he is now being taking care of with help and support of family and friends.

Dramas aside, I am here to today to talk about The Ordinary's Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution, which I got to replace my ultra beloved Pixi Glow Tonic. I tried to purchase this toner for a while but it was constantly out of stock, until on a strike of luck I was finally able to do my order.
The packaging is a very simple bottle with a white label, which has the name of the products at the front and the ingredients on the back. It came with a safe stopper and the dispenser as well, although I have to say that the dispenser is actually nice nice and helps you with placing the correct amount of toner on the cotton.

As for the product itself, it does not contain any scent - only the chemical one from the ingredients - and it isn't in my opinion harsh to the skin. This product has more Glycolic Acid than Pixi's Glow Tonic (which also has Aloe Vera) and because of that I feel like it alows what I use next (serum and moisturiser) to penetrate more into the skin. After using it regularly, I noticed my skin continued to look better and pores were unclogged.
I do believe it is a product that deserves it's recognition and by it's price - around 8,80€ at most retailers and The Ordinary's website - I cannot point out another product that will work like this. I'll probably go back to my Pixi Glow Tonic in the future (because I feel it is a luxurious experience) but might be getting a couple bottles of this and recommend it to friends.

Have you tried this product? What do you think about The Ordinary?

  1. I haven't tried this but wanted to when it was first released. I am a die-hard Glow Tonic fan and have a massive bottle of it so I don't really see me straying. That being said, this does sound like a great product! xx

  2. I haven't tried the Glow Tonic yet, but I have this glycolic toner in my rotation and use it on days when I'm looking for a more gentle exfoliation - it's great!

  5. I think I had quite a similar experience with this - it definitely works but I love all the extra ingredients in the Glow Tonic so definitely choose that over this. Though it's great as a more affordable option!

    1. Yes! I am going to continue with this but once it empties out, I'll go back to Pixi's Glow Tonic for sure. It's a completely different experience I guess.

  8. Thanks for the review, Diana! I think you actually just managed to quench my thirst for Pixi Glow Tonic — for some reason I've always thought it would be more effective than this, but if it's more luxe and gentle instead, I'll stick to my The Ordinary glycolic ;)

    1. They have different formulas and different percentages of Glycolic Acid. The Ordinary's version has 7% Glycolic Acid with no Aloe Vera, while Pixi's has only 5%. I think it really depends to the needs of your skin and your personal preference. For instances during the the summer time I'd rather have a lower dosage of glycolic acid because of the sun, while in the winter I like to have a higher one so that my skin can absorve the moisturiser more effectively.

Thank you for passing by! xoxo
